the story
Up North Pride is a non-profit based in Traverse City Michigan who focus on fostering inclusive spaces by providing education and resources, inspiring activism and advocacy, and producing community-focused 2SLGBTQIA+ programs and events. In the spring of 2021 they invited three artists to paint and build out shipping containers around the word ‘Unconditional’.
exterior
On the exterior of the piece are graphics meant to provoke the viewer to see conditions through the lens of nature. Through this lens, we are able to distill complex conditions down to their simplest forms. There are endless examples of resilience under adverse conditions in the natural world. These examples can not only educate but provide a level of unconditional understanding and affirmation. We can find simplified strength and inspiration through this natural lens.
interior
So when your conditions become complex and chaotic, as depicted on the interior of this piece, look around you and pull from the resilience that exists in even the simplest of forms. We are each on our own journey, with experiences and conditions that vary in adversity, so lead with empathy and understanding towards yourself, others, and your environment. After all, it is the shared experience of conditions that challenges us to BE unconditional.
